This group exhibition presents a number of artists whose work traverses different dimensions of reality, identity and reportage. Each work, at its root, has a form of investigation – questions about sexual identity, the cosmos, the canons of philosophy, the meaning of life, third world poverty or the relevance of art itself.

Confronting these questions, the roles of the artists begin to emerge: chameleon, imposter, investigator, reporter, analyst, traveller, nominalist, parodist. The
audience is left to ponder the questions, not easily answered, but definitely provoking.

THIS IS GOING TO TAKE MORE THAN ONE NIGHT
Presented in collaboration with Project Arts Centre, on the occasion of the exhibition A MacGuffin and Some Other Things (April 13th to June 16th) curated by Vaari Claffey, the IFI presents five screenings of This is Going to Take More Than One Night; directed by Neasa Hardiman. Curated by Claffey and featuring artists Isabel Nolan, Alice Rekab, Bea McMahon and Sarah Pierce, this film explores the never-ending struggle to communicate.  The film works like the old surrealist game of Exquisite Corpse. Each artist leaves something on screen as the starting point for the next artist’s work. The transitional object changes meaning and emphasis from artist to artist. Whether we use singing, text, hip-hop or tee-shirts, what we mean is never fixed.

Free admission.
