it was as if a vacuum formed around one, 2015
Pear in a Bottle, 2013
I found myself wondering what Hannah Arendt would say about it. I invited her for a YouTube session in my studio. She said her cigarettes were running out and wanted to make sure there was some place nearby to buy some. I told her they don't sell cigarettes in the Cantina anymore and we wanted to protest. She then reminded me how impossible it is to make noise in a vacuum. Even the loudest explosion will become a faint sound or just a mere vibration. Speaking in your mother tongue, even screaming at the top of your lungs, will have no eco if you are not among people who share your language. It will become a hollow scream, empty of its specific meaning left only with its form or frequency. So listen carefully to the sounds, listen to the light transforming into voice. Watch the catholic marriage of these two: image and sound.
