Paulien Oltheten designs "the largest canvas in the world"

On Tuesday, December 20, it was announced that alumna Paulien Oltheten (RA 05/06) will be creating the final design for "the largest canvas in the world", a scaffold canvas of 81x21 meters, which will be presented in early 2017 in front of the former Hogeschool (College) building on Wibautstraat.

In September, upon the invitation of initiator Boelens de Gruyter, the Rijksakademie invited alumni to submit a design sketch for this assignment. In December, the jury (consisting of, among others, mayor Eberhard van der Laan, chief editor of Het Parool Ronald Ockhuysen, director of the Stedelijk Museum Beatrix Ruf and director of Amsterdam Art Adriana Gonzalez Hulshof) asked Paulien Oltheten, as well as Danielle van Ark and Andy Wauman to further elaborate their designs.

The jury's comment on the design of Paulien Oltheten: "The simplicity/intimacy of the images stands in sharp contrast to the visual chaos of the city and the bustle of the Wibautstraat, but they are far from boring."

The exterior wall painting will be on display from early February to late March 2017.
