The Prix de Rome is the oldest and most generous Dutch “state” prize for artists and architects (younger than 35). The prize focuses on excellence and professionalisation in an international context, tracing talent and spotting trends in the Netherlands. In 2008 the Prix de Rome celebrated its bicentennial in the Netherlands. 
 
The Prix de Rome Visual Arts is organised once every two years, the Prix de Rome Architecture once every four years. The prize is as follows, winner € 45,000, runner-up € 20,000 and two basic prizes € 10,000 each. 
 
The Prix de Rome is organised as a network organisation by the Rijksakademie in collaboration with the SNS REAAL Fund, the Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds, KPN, Inbo, Smart Project Space, AVRO KunstUur, NAi Publishers,  Prijs voor de Jonge Kunstkritiek, Kunstbeeld and IMC Weekendschool. The Prix de Rome is made possible by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Rijksakademie Trust Fund.
