De mythe staat centraal in het werk van Femmy Otten. Het is een van de krachten van historische afbeeldingen en verhalen die voortdurend zijn veranderd in de loop van de tijd, maar nooit hun oorspronkelijke werking in ons fysieke en emotionele bewustzijn zijn kwijtgeraakt. 'Ik leg als het ware de geheugenstructuur bloot van het hout waarmee ik werk. Ik voeg de legenden van mijn geheugen samen met de diepgang van de geschiedenis waarmee we nog vertrouwd zijn.' Otten werkt vooral intuïtief; aan de schoonheid van haar werk kun je de openheid en nieuwsgierigheid aflezen die de inspiratiebron vormden.

The work of Femmy Otten thematises the myth as one of the forces of those historic images and legends that have continually undergone changes in the course of time, but have never lost the original force which runs through our physical and emotional consciousness. 'It’s like I’m laying bare the memory structure of the wood in which I work, combining in astonishment the legends of my psychical memory with the depth of the history that is still familiar to us.’ Femmy puts her intuition into play; the beauty of what she creates lies in the openness and curiosity that inspire it.
