Central to Helen Dowlings practice is sharing in the physical and mental possibilities and limitations of people, situations and media which she processes so that every anomaly results in media interventions. She manipulates image and soundtrack to produce fragmented perceptions.
Her work also derives from a continued interest in the medium of video and how this digital form lacks a material body in comparison to the content of the physical world. Reflections on the machinery of video production arise from these apparent properties. Different time lines, one of the making of the work and one of the showing of the work are brought together. The body of the equipment used to make the video joins with that of the body represented and plays on the expectation of what corporeality and aliveness can mean for a viewer.
