Leidy Churchman's paintings often engage colours and characters that seem to be marvelling in the wonder of their respective environments and states of being. Oscillating between painting, sculpture and video the artist welcomes the relationships of supposed opposites as an allegory for the uncertain humour that accompanies living. “I think of people and their environments as morphing and transsexual, lit up with complexity and amusement.” His latest group of paintings depicts the dressed forms within the landscape of the graveyard.
