Resident Artists

The Rijksakademie is an international artists' platform. About fifty emerging professional artists work in their own studio in an international community, besides having access to a range of facilities. Usually a resident has had a few years of professional experience as an artist. An ability for critical reflection and sufficient focus within the work are important in order to be able to make optimum use of the facilities the Rijksakademie offers. Experience shows that, three to five years after one's training, a residency at the Rijksakademie has the most impact.

About half of the resident artists come from outside the Netherlands. In 2009, they came from Belgium, Burkina-Faso, China, Colombia, Congo, Cuba, Denmark, Germany, Egypt, Finland, France, Georgia, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Japan, Cameroon, Lithuania, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Czechia, the United States, South Korea and Switzerland.

The average age when applying is 29.
