Profile

The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam is a leading institute for artists who want to develop themselves further and strive for deepening, broadening and accelerating their art practice.

The name refers to the classical Akademia, the place where young an old scientists and artists met to exchange ideas and knowledge. The core of the Rijksakademie is an artist residency: fifty artists from all over the world can work here in an individual studio for a maximum of two years.

However, the Rijksakademie is more than a residency: a platform for production and an international meeting place for artists. The Rijksakademie offers a unique blend of the features of artists' residencies and research centers at the highest international level. On an international level the Rijksakademie is positioned next to artists' residencies like 'Künstlerhaus Bethaniën' in Berlin and research centers like (parts of) the MIT in Boston, and postgraduate institutes like Goldsmith's College (MA) in London.

The Rijksakademie also organizes the Prix de Rome.NL, the oldest and most prestigious 'state'prize of the Netherlands.
