What started in the 18th century in the "Stads Teekenacademie" as a library with a special interest in anatomy, perspective, drawing, painting techniques and old masters, has evolved into a medium-sized art historic libray. The library of the Rijksakademie is a research center for scientists, students, artists, critics, curators and anybody with an interest in (contemporary) art. Overall you will find information from ancient through modern times with the emphasis on current development.
Together with the artists' documentation and the art collecions it forms a living memory and vital as source of up-to-date information about alumni of the Rijksakademie and Prix de Rome.
The collection incluses approximately 33.000 volumes. In addition to 85 magazine subscriptions and some 1400 videos and dvd's, there is a large collection of monographies, catalogues of exhibitions and art theory books on visual arts, photography, video, applied art and architecture.
