Accessibility - Route Description

The Rijksakademie is located in the Kavalleriekazerne building, near the centre of Amsterdam. The building is next to the Muiderpoort archway, near the Tropical Museum and Artis zoo and within easy reach of the NS stations. Most of the building is accessible for the physically challenged.

access by private transport

A - From the east (Amersfoort - highway A1): follow the eastern section of the Amsterdam ringway (direction Den Haag); take exit S113 (Watergraafsmeer); continue as described at -E- below.
B - From the west (Den Haag - highway A4): follow the south section of the Amsterdam ringway (direction Amersfoort); take exit S113 (Watergraafsmeer, follows immediately after S112); continue as described at -E- below.
C - From the south (Utrecht - highway A2): highway A2 continues in exit S110; you are now at the Utrechtseweg. Follow exit S110 and turn right at the end of the Utrechtseweg, you are now driving with the Amstel river at your right hand. Follow this road until the T-fork, where you turn right, over a bridge crossing the river; you are now at the Mauritskade. Follow this road (through the tunnel) and turn left at the first bridge (= Korte 's-Gravesandestraat). At the end is the Sarphatistraat, turn right.
The Rijksakademie (nr. 470) is the third building at your right hand side.
D - From the North (Zaanstad - highway A10): follow the north section of the Amsterdam ringway (direction Utrecht); take exit S113 (Watergraafsmeer, several kilometers after exit S114); continue as described at -E- below.
E - From exit S113, direction Watergraafsmeer: you are now at the Middenweg, which continues into the Linnaeusstraat. Turn left at the roundabout at the end of the Linnaeusstraat, then right over the bridge and immediately left again.
You are now at the Sarphatistraat with the Rijksakademie on you left hand side.

access by public transport

I - From Amsterdam Central Station: metro or rapid tram, get off at Weesperplein (continue as described at -V- below). Alternatively, take tram 9 (direction Diemen), get off at Plantage Badlaan (walk on in the same direction and turn right after the bridge).
II - From Amsterdam Amstel Station: metro or rapid tram direction Centraal Station, get off at Weesperplein (continue as described at -V- below).
III - From Schiphol Airport: NS 'Schiphollijn' train (direction Amsterdam), get off at Central Staion (continue as described at -I- above) or at World Trade Centre / RAI Station (continue as described at -IV- below).
IV - From World Trade Centre / RAI: rapid tram 51 (direction Centraal Station), get off at Weesperplein (continue as described at -V- below).
V - From Weesperplein (exit tram 6-7-10): tram 10 (direction Javaplein), get off at Alexanderplein (2 stops), you are now in front of the building.
Alternatively: walk along the Sarphatistraat in the direction of the Muiderpoort archway (about 5 minutes).
