It is with great pleasure that we present the second set of artist editions that the Rijksakademie has ever commissioned.
The first set, ‘In a Box,’ celebrated our 150th anniversary and reflected the breadths and diversity of artists and practices that contributed towards making the Rijksakademie such a renowned free space for new ideas, viewpoints and professional development.
This year, The Venice Editions presents new work from five Rijksakademie alumni who participated in the main exhibition of the 59th Venice Biennale ‘The Milk of Dreams’: Monira Al Qadiri (KW), Simnikiwe Buhlungu (ZA), Mire Lee (KR), Janis Rafa (GR) and Müge Yilmaz (TR), were amongst the 213 artists participating from 58 countries in the exhibition. With The Venice Editions we take notice of the presence of our alumni in the international art field, celebrate the trajectory of their development and focus on how their current practices are still connected to their time as a resident at the Rijksakademie.
The Venice Editions will be available as an edition of five times 25. The sale starts on Thursday 1 June at 17.00, during the Official Opening of the annual Open Studios. The work is presented all Open Studios days and can be purchased during regular opening hours from 2 to 4 June and 8 to 11 June. Price per edition is €1,750, including VAT. All proceeds of the sale go towards supporting the next generation of resident artists.
Furthermore, the editions will go on presale with a discount exclusively for our Friends and Pioneers on 25 May. When interested in purchasing during the presale, we warmly welcome you to support the Rijksakademie by becoming our Friend. Read about it here or reach out to us via friends@rijksakademie.nl.
Just like the first editions, we are indebted to Aveline de Bruin for her inspiration, commitment and continuous flow of creativity. As a cherished friend of the Rijksakademie we thank her again for initiating and coordinating this set of editions for us. In addition, we have been again hugely impressed by the tremendous generosity and commitment of the alumni involved. Because of their enthusiasm we can continue to provide new resident artists the same opportunities that they have had.
We want to warmly thank our sponsor HIZKIA for their advice, and for ensuring all editions will be safely packed and ready to go home with their new owners at our bookshop during the Open Studios.
