Job Opening: Public Programme Coordinator

24 hours per week November 2021 – October 2022

The Rijksakademie has created a new post for a public programme coordinator. This will begin as a one-year position, but has the potential to be continued longer term.

The public programme complements and extends the Rijksakademie’s residency programme, and creates wider access and engagement possibilities for broader publics in our activities. We are searching for someone with a passion for working with contemporary art, and artists, to assist with organising talks, workshops and events for a range of audiences.

The public programme is currently composed of public talks and events throughout the residency year, an art mediation course, special projects and guest residencies, resident artist‐led programming and programmes devised with partner organisations in the Netherlands and abroad. Due to the nature of these events, a willingness to work evenings and weekends, on‐ and off‐site will be required.

The public programme coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development and coordination of the public programme, including the planning, production, realisation and communication of public events and projects, some of which will be realised in collaboration with colleagues and artists in the residency programme. This includes:

  • In collaboration with members of the Rijksakademie team, conceptualising, planning, and implementing the public facing aspects of the Rijksakademie’s programme
  • Overseeing and realisation of all aspects of the coordination, production, planning and communication of the public programme, and keeping an overview of planned activities and the scheduling of these, being the go‐to person for information on the public programme internally and externally
  • Writing or editing select components of grant proposals and reports for public programmes division, promotional copy for public programmes division
  • Other programmes and duties as assigned

The coordination of programme logistics and event support for public programmes, workshops, with a particular focus on talks and lectures will involve:

  • Drawing up and managing the overall public programme budget, and individual event/project budgets
  • Scheduling spaces and confirming set‐up details including hospitality and A/V needs, ticketing and travel arrangements
  • Producing event‐related correspondence, promotional materials and documents
  • Coordinating other team members, volunteers, interns, and contracted artists as needed

Experience/skills

Essential

  • Affinity with the vision, mission and values of the Rijksakademie
  • Interest in and knowledge of contemporary art practice, the cultural field in the Netherlands and internationally and debates
  • Excellent organisational skills, collaboration skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle many activities and projects simultaneously: a practical, problem-solving, hands-on team player
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, a fluency in spoken English
  • Awareness and sensitivity to cultural and other differences when working with resident artists, team members, representatives of public and private organisations, and the general public, and strong commitment to equity and accessibility

Desirable

  • Fluent Dutch and/or an interest in/commitment to learning Dutch
  • Fluency in written English
  • One to three years of experience coordinating public programmes in arts organisations, including: developing activities/performances/programmes, managing event support staff, complying with facilities requirements, and collaborating with the communications team on publicity
  • Demonstrated excellent writing, public speaking, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with adult audiences

Practical information

Salary, based on museum CAO scale 7, €2.550 – €2.600 pcm (gross f/t)
