Rijksakademie Tech Fellowship

Open Call

For over 150 years, the Rijksakademie has been invested in artistic development and forward-thinking art. In our residence programme we house an artist community that is highly international, multi-disciplinary, experimental and critically engaged. Residents have access to technical workshops and guidance by technical specialists. We distinguish the clusters construction, ceramics, media, chemicals and print.

In 2022, the Rijksakademie launches a practical research-residency for young and mid-career artists/makers to further develop their skills in craft and new technology: the Tech Fellowship Programme.

The tech fellows gain new experience by participating in artist projects, material experiments, cross-over projects and knowledge transfer within a master-apprentice structure, in addition to conducting their own research in the workshop. Experienced workshop specialists share knowledge and experience and collaborate with the fellows.

The pilot programme starts with three tech fellowships for eleven months, from February to December 2022.

For the first edition of the programme, from February to December 2022, three tech fellowships are available in the work areas:

• Construction Woodworking and metalworking (including laser cutting and CNC) in the broadest sense of the word, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary projects developed in collaboration with the other technical workshops of the Rijksakademie.

• Media & Electronics Various analogue & digital techniques, such as film, video, photography, animation, motion graphics, sound, 3D scanning, modelling, sculpting and printing, VR, electronics, programming and electromechanics.
