The metal workshop includes a complete mechanical and engineering shop, where the emphasis lies on material experimentation and related research. The metal workshop centers mostly on the development and construction of sculptures, installations and associated components, often in close collaboration with the other workshops.

The wood workshop pairs traditional techniques with modern-day technological developments. Equipped with power machines for all practices that occur in woodworking, the wood workshop offers mounting tables, (electric) hand tools, air pressure tools, laser cutters, and a CNC milling machine. There are also opportunities for plastic cutting.

Learning in the workshop
As a tech fellow, you will work together with your mentor, the technical specialist of the construction workshop(s) and learn how to advise artists on craft, technique or material and how to run a technical workshop.

Research plan
You do research on material databases, materials that can be reused, recycled, or are organic, and you create a (physical) database in the construction workshop. For this you submit a research plan.

Who can apply?
Young and mid-career artists with advanced knowledge of and interest in expanding their skills in the field of crafts, materials and/or techniques can apply. You must have experience in metal- and woodworking (including laser cutting and CNC) in the broadest sense, with an emphasis on mechanical and engineering, and interdisciplinary projects. You have an independent, curious work attitude. You enjoy working with others and sharing knowledge and can work in an international community.

You are available four days a week during the period, living in The Netherlands and registered as self-employed.

In the paint workshop residents are advised on the use of synthetic resins, the development of surface structures, conservation methods and much more. Experimentation with various techniques, old and new, is a very important aspect. There is a dust-free spray cabin and a space to stretch very large format canvases.

Learning in the workshop
As a tech fellow, you will work together with your mentor, the technical specialist of the paint workshop and learn how to advise artists on craft, technique or material and how to run a technical workshop.

Research plan
You do research on material databases, online recipe databases and other initiatives, and create in the paint workshop a (physical) database of atoxic, non-chemical, biodegradable and sustainable alternative materials for artists. You will submit a research plan for this.

Who can apply?
Young and mid-career artists with advanced knowledge of and interest in expanding their skills in the field of crafts, materials and/or techniques can apply. You must have experience in working/ experimenting with paint, plastic, rubber, silicones, glue. You have an independent, curious work attitude. You enjoy working with others and sharing knowledge and can work in an international community.

You are available four days a week during the period, living in The Netherlands and registered as self-employed.

In the fields of graphics and photography new techniques are continually emerging. Large format digital printing, silkscreen and Riso are popular techniques, as well as developing photopolymer combined with film negatives. Residents have the possibility to work with traditional – nontoxic – printmaking techniques such as lithography, woodcuts, etching and bookbinding. The workshop is regularly used for creating publications and frequently collaborates with the other workshops, for example to experiment with inks or to create ceramic transfers.

As a tech fellow, you will work together with your mentor, the technical specialist of the print workshop, and learn how to advise artists on craft, technique and/or material and how to run a technical workshop.

Research plan
Your research should preferably focus on one component, such as lithography or textile printing. For this you submit a research plan.

Who can apply?
Young and mid-career artists with advanced knowledge of and interest in expanding their skills in the field of crafts, materials and/or techniques can apply. You have experience in working with graphic and/or photographic techniques such as intaglio, relief printing, planographic printing and digital printing and printers. You are also familiar with relevant software and interested in digital developments in the field of graphics and photography. Affinity with and knowledge of paper and/or textiles as a medium are desirable. In the Print workshop, a sustainable and environmentally friendly attitude is a prerequisite and experimentation takes precedence over production.
