Activating Pasts, Practicing Futures

    in collaboration with
  • ARTIS, NL
  • Oude Kerk, NL

Across 2020 and 2021 the Rijksakademie launches the 150th anniversary programme and accompanying website ‘Activating Pasts, Practising Futures’, which explores the Rijksakademie’s history and un-archive relevant elements for today’s discussions about art. At the same time, the programme plants seeds for the future, finding new inspiration and relationships that can take our work forwards and into our next 150 years.

This multi-faceted programme includes a variety of new projects and both public and private events, with, amongst others, the exhibition ‘Live from the Rijks, 150 Years of Artistic Practice’, the publication ‘Rijksakademie on the map’, a city map marking public sites in Amsterdam that hold Rijksakademie history, an artist residency at ARTIS Zoo, a new partnership with the Oude Kerk, which will house three artists in studio’s adjoined to the church, and a special artist edition ‘In a box’, made by artists for artists.

‘Activating Pasts, Practising Futures’ is supported by our main partner Ammodo, with additional support from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Stichting De Gijselaar-Hintzenfonds, M.A.O.C. Gravin van Bylandt Stichting, Stichting ZABAWAS, Fonds 21, and Creative Europe Programme – European Commission.
