During January and February, researcher and performance artist Tero Nauha, will have a short residency at the Rijksakademie. As a conclusion of his stay, he will share his ongoing research practice:

‘My interests in this research residency are twofold. On the one hand, I will be focusing on issues of economics, financialisation and art, which is part of a longer research project I have been undertaking in collaboration with artists and political economists. On the other hand, I will be exploring the materiality of garments and clothing, which has been a practice-led strand of my performance research. However distant these two ideas may seem; I see a clear connection between the market and materiality - the speculative and the productive. There is an obvious connection between the production, consumption and waste, as well as the value creation, appropriation and labour associated with the clothing industry. Finally, there is the material-discrusive and affective connection, where the wearing, tearing, mending and crafting is always intertwined with the speculative aspect of finance, because the materials that we carry with us are linked to the options of the market that link the future to the present. We don't know the future, but we are asked to act as if we do, and in this process the future is linked to the materiality of the present.’
